12 Things I’m Doing to Sort My TBR Pile Into a More Satisfying and Manageable List
Now that we are heading into the heart of summer and we're out of our cold and wintery reading funks - I'm taking the time to organize my TBR pile because frankly, it's in some desperate need of cleaning up. I have books on my Goodreads list from 7 years ago. I'll wait a minute while you take the time to let that set in. YES! I MEAN, LITERALLY 7 YEARS AGO. That is not an exaggeration and honestly, I'm sick of looking at books on there that I have absolutely zero interest in ever reading because there are a bunch of other great ones out there that deserve my attention.
So if you're in the same boat as me my friend, I suggest you implement some of the things I am doing to fix this situation because trust me when I say this, you will feel so much lighter (and so will your old and overdue TBR pile).
Go ahead and read them below. Also, don't forget to tell me what you think!
Attending virtual events online for reading my backlist items that have been in my TBR pile for far too long (such as Facebook group events, etc.)
Joining #bookathons and #readathons to give me more opportunities to read more often
Sifting through my TBR books and getting rid of the gazillion that I will probably never read, I’m just being realistic here and honestly, I’d rather do this in order to make time for the books I REALLY would like to read
Putting the books that I’m most enthusiastic to read at the top of my list
Rearranging books that are a part of a series to be read sooner rather than later, for upcoming sequels to be released soon
Creating mini lists of TBR piles categorized by genre and/or mood
Creating an up to date actual paper list/digital document/want to read shelf on Goodreads
Editing and purging books off of my Goodreads want to read list (think of this as clearing out your TBR junk drawer)
Possible idea: creating mini TBR lists for each month and adding a book from each specific list that I make - such as genre, popular backlist books, new books by my favorite authors, etc. (I think this will be a great idea for me!)
If I’m having difficulty choosing which to keep on my list - I’ll take a look at any book reviews from my friends with similar tastes on Goodreads or their blogs
When in doubt, judge the book by its cover (because - let’s face it, we’re all human here)
Last, but not least - purge and forget and move on! We only have so much time to read so make it count!
What are you doing to slim down your TBR list? You can never have too many tips for this because you know all of us #booknerds are #guilty. 😂
